Most ebay Sock Monkeys you will see say they they are "Vintage". This is rarely true.
Any monkey older than 1994 would be made from the older style sock. This sock was made by Fox River (1953-1992) and can be recognized by a larger white toe, muted colors and a slightly different red toe (mouth). Many of these "vintage" socks are still found today and some sock monkey makers use them to create new Sock Monkeys.

True Vintage Sock Monkey
It is rare for a sock monkey that is decades old, to have a symmetric body or bright colors. Most were made with very thin arms, large bodies and curled ears. The stuffing 25-50 years ago consisted of any sort of items including; nylons, rags, fabric scraps and even newspaper. Frequently, old pillows or shredded foam was used. The old monkeys can have tons of personality and because their stuffing is so old and settled they are usually very poseable.
This one shown is from 1966
